I view art as a way of documenting human experiences. The majority of my work focuses on the complexity of the human condition, specifically my experiences with myself, my family, and the world around me. There are many ways to be a human, but we all share common wants, needs, and feelings. I find that sentiment comforting. I occasionally play with familiar feelings or ideas in a foreign/unknown form to others in my art. With my background as a transgender first-generation Hmong American, I have many influences to draw from. I don’t expect the audience to know the people in my life or my culture, but the relationships and feelings I portray in my work are nearly universal.

The process of creating matters to me as much as a finished project, whether that means obsessively working on hundreds of minor details to strengthen a piece as a whole or intuitively creating and processing new ideas. I am not tied to one medium, as I find that the intersection of different mediums, and anything, can be extremely innovative. Experimentation and play are a big part of the development of my work. I am a sponge and always on the lookout for new things to learn. I believe that knowing a little bit of everything, both in and out of the art world, can give birth to new processes that keep art exciting.
